Big Money Blocks Health-Care Reform

Editor,

I have just been browsing your website and I have found it interesting.

I'd like to make a few comments for your consideration. For example, what has happened to our democratic system of government. Case in point: in 1998 the voters expressed the view that they clearly wanted to get big bucks out of the system. Since that vote was taken the state legislature has been laboring mightily to negate, gut, and render useless the vote of the people. They have used a variety of excuses such as, the voters didn't understand that the funds were to come out of the taxes they pay, or that they did not mean to include legislators, or that the funds could come from a checkoff system, or that the law will be abused and funds will go to frivolous candidates. Of course, any candidate running against an incumbent is considered frivolous by the powers that be. Our democratic system of government is being deliberately undermined by Democrats and Republicans alike.

Another case in point is the legislature's approach to our health care nonsystem. Just about everyone agrees that the health care is a shambles. The reasons are too many for me to go into here, the point that I want to make is that the legislative approach is to deal with the problems on a case by case basis. What is really needed is a comprehensive look and the entire situation and then to consider a systemic cure. The fact is, it seems to me, that the legislators benefit much more from patching up the system and campaigning on their effectiveness but totally ignoring a broader approach. The mainline press is asleep on this issue.

There, I've unburdened myself on a couple of issues. I'd like to read responses to my analysis.
